What it is
Guidance matters more than most patients realise. Landmark-guided injections miss the target a meaningful proportion of the time, and a medication that is not in the joint cannot work.

- Post-traumatic joint pain after a crash or fall
What to expect
- Ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance.
- Takes 10 to 15 minutes.
- Soreness for a day or two is normal.
- Steroid can raise blood sugar for several days — tell us if you are diabetic.

Every injection carries a small risk of bleeding, infection, an allergic reaction, or a temporary increase in pain. Steroid can raise blood sugar for several days. Serious complications are rare, and the specific risks for your procedure will be discussed before you consent.
