What it is
In chronic migraine a standardised pattern of small injections across the head, neck and shoulders reduces headache days. In muscle spasm and myofascial pain, injections reduce the overactivity driving the pain.
What we use it for
- Chronic migraine — 15 or more headache days a month
- Cervical dystonia and persistent neck muscle spasm
- Myofascial pain resistant to other treatment
What to expect
- A series of small injections; about 20 minutes.
- No sedation and no driver needed.
- Effect builds over two to four weeks and lasts around three months.
- Repeated on a schedule rather than as needed.
Risks
Every procedure carries a small risk of bleeding, infection, an allergic reaction, or a temporary increase in pain. Steroid can raise blood sugar for several days, which matters if you are diabetic. Serious complications are rare, and the specific risks for your procedure and your health will be discussed before you consent to anything.
