A back brace circles your lower back and stomach, with a stiffer panel behind, to support your low back while it heals. We size it and adjust it so it fits you.
This item is supplied only on a physician’s order, and it is fitted on you in the clinic.
What is a back brace?
A wrap that circles your lower back and stomach, with stiffer material built into the back panel.
How does it help you heal?
It supports the low back during the parts of the day that load it most: sitting, standing for a long time and lifting.
How should it feel?
Snug, not tight. You should be able to breathe all the way in and fit two fingers beneath the edge.
How do you wear it, use it and keep it in shape?
Wear it over a thin, snug shirt instead of bare skin. Unless your physician says otherwise, remove it for showers and for sleep. Check your skin morning and night. Keep up your home exercises; the brace supports you but does not take their place.
When should you call us?
Call us if:
- New numbness or tingling in your legs
- Sores or blisters
- Trouble breathing while it is on
How long do you use it?
Wear it as your physician ordered.
We size the item on you and coach you until you can manage it on your own, from strapping it on to taking it off. Written instructions go home with you, and the signed receipt stays in your chart. Phone us about any pain, a bad fit or a broken piece.
What to remember
- Two fingers fit under the edge.
- A thin shirt underneath, never bare skin.
- The brace does not replace your exercises.
Show us you have it: Let us watch you strap it on and unstrap it. If any part is unclear, ask us to go over it again; there is no limit on that.
